UW takes its nationally ranked Applied Mathematics Master's Degree online
SEATTLE Starting in autumn 2007, the University of Washington's nationally ranked Department of Applied Mathematics will offer a new online Master of Science in Applied Mathematics. As one of a few online degrees in applied mathematics in the country, the program provides professionals who work in various scientific fields a convenient way to earn a master's degree that is applicable to their careers.
Students will have the flexibility of enrolling on a full- or part-time basis, allowing them to complete the program in one to three years. Through the online program, students will be able to access the same curriculum and UW faculty as those who attend during the day on the UW campus in Seattle.
"This new program satisfies the needs of professionals who want to further their careers by earning an advanced degree in applied mathematics," said Ka-Kit Tung, professor and chair of the UW Department of Applied Mathematics. "The online format allows us to bring this degree program to students who cannot come to campus, or who are working full time."
Using the resources of the Education at a Distance for Growth and Excellence (EDGE) program, on-campus classes are recorded and then transferred to the Web, CD-ROM or videotape for students to access at any time.
"By maintaining high quality and flexibility at the same time, we hope that we can reach out and serve a wider community of students and professionals," Tung said.
The online Master of Science in Applied Mathematics program is accepting applications for autumn 2007. For more information or to apply, visit www.amathonline.washington.edu or call 206-685-2242.
