UW World Languages Day brings world's cultures to local high school students
- WHAT: The University of Washington's World Languages Day will bring the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of the world's cultures and languages to 1,250 local high school students. This unique day of discovery includes activities like learning to speak Cambodian, listening to the sounds of Sakartvelo, participating in a Greek folk dance and experiencing the pop culture of France.
- HIGHLIGHTS:
- Aussie Slang and Culture
- Greek Folk Dancing
- The story of African American English/Ebonics
- French Pop Culture
- Mini Lesson in Cambodian
- Sounds of Sakartvelo (Georgia)
- WHO: 1,250 high school juniors and seniors as well as volunteer instructors, university staff and faculty.
- WHERE: UW campus in Seattle. Check-in at the Husky Union Building (HUB) lobby in front of the grand ballroom; sessions held at various campus locations.
- WHEN: Friday, March 3, 2006; 8:45 a.m. 2:30 p.m.
- WHY: To encourage students to continue with their foreign language studies after high school graduation and to celebrate the different languages and cultures of the world.
