UW World Languages Day introduces local high school students to diverse cultures

Event highlights careers using world languages

Location:         UW Seattle campus

Event:               UW World Languages Day

More than 1200 high school students from across the Puget Sound region will visit University of Washington classes in many different languages, sample a variety of cultures, and learn about careers using world languages.

Activities and presentations include language mini-lessons plus history, dance, music, art, and more.

Highlights of this annual event sponsored by UW Educational Outreach include:

  • Language mini-lessons in Turkish, Arabic, German, Finnish, Farsi, Polish, Romanian, Chinese, ancient Greek, and more
  • Scenes from The Ramayana of India with music and dance
  • Activities for celebrating traditional Chinese festivals
  • Sohoyini "One Heart" West African Dance performance
  • Loteria, a traditional Hispanic board game similar to "Bingo"
  • World Languages Trivia Competition
