UWEO, UW School of Music and EMP strike the right note

It is UWEO's mission to bring the resources of the University to the community. And when the opportunity presents itself to bring the resources of the community to the University, UWEO does not hesitate to act.

When the Experience Music Project (EMP) approached UWEO about creating a certificate program in songwriting to coincide with an upcoming exhibit, the members of UWEO's academic programs excitedly brought the idea to the UW School of Music to form a first-time partnership between the two. UWEO, through UW Extension, was able to create the Certificate Program in Songwriting, which launched in autumn 2004 with 23 students. The program was well-received and included instructors from Seattle-area bands and recording companies, the use of EMP facilities, and an end-of-the-year concert at EMP's Science Fiction Museum stage, where students' songs were performed.
