UW and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration launch new program in tsunami science and preparedness
The University of Washington and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have joined efforts with funding provided by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to help prevent tragedies like the Sumatra tsunami of December 2004 from occurring again. From July 22 to August 2, 2007, UW Educational Outreach and the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL), a division of NOAA, will host participants from five Indian Ocean countries for the first UW Certificate Program in Tsunami Science and Preparedness. The program, the first offering of the International Tsunami Training Institute (ITTI) funded by USAID, will be held at the UW campus in Seattle.
For more information, please see the UWEO press release about this program.
