Natural Language Technology research at UW funded again
The National Science Foundation awarded a second grant in two years, a total of $1 million, to UW Computational Linguistics faculty for research in natural language technology. Emily Bender and Fei Xia each received awards for devising methods to convert human language into a form computers can understand and manipulate, such as search engine technology and voice recognition. A new online certificate program in this field began in summer 2008.
