Course Description
In this introductory course, you will begin acquiring Spanish vocabulary and building communication skills. The course will offer a relaxed environment for participation with a variety of lively communication activities. In pairs and small groups, you will learn to converse about yourself, family and friends, and daily activities. The full-immersion approach of this course provides students with ample opportunity for natural language acquisition. No previous Spanish required. Students will also have the opportunity to meet successful members of the Hispanic community. María de Lourdes Victoria Muguira, Attorney and published writer, originally from Mexico, will give a short presentation about the role of professional Hispanic women in the area.

Montserrat Alvear Linkletter
Montserrat Alvear Linkletter is a native Spanish speaker who was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador. After graduating from high school in Ecuador, she moved to the United States, where she continued her education. She received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master's Degree in Spanish from the University of Washington in Seattle. She now teaches Spanish full-time at Tacoma Community College. Linkletter is also a certified court and medical interpreter, and works for Superior, District, and Municipal Courts. She is also a member of Mujeres of the Pacific Northwest, and Almas Líricas, a women's writing group.
