Fees and Finances: Course Fees

Credit Course Fees

The instructional costs for online learning courses are supported by student fees and are not included in regular UW tuition.

Special note: Tuition does not cap out at any certain number of credits. Students will continue to pay the per-credit rate shown in the table above regardless of the number of credits taken. However, tech fees do cap out at $41.

Registration fee: All registrants pay a nonrefundable $35 registration fee per quarter:

  • Autumn Quarter: August 21–December 17, 2010
  • Winter Quarter: December 19, 2009–March 19, 2010
  • Spring Quarter: March 20–June 11, 2010
  • Summer Quarter: June 11–August 20, 2010

Technology fee: Students enrolled in credit online learning courses also pay a technology fee based on the number of credits for which they are enrolled. The fee ranges from $9–$41; the appropriate amount will be charged at the time of registration. The fee is refundable on the same basis as tuition. The technology fee gives students access to the Internet, World Wide Web, e-mail, computer and multimedia workstations and laboratories, computer software and dial-up telephone service.

Supplementary materials: Supplementary materials are listed after assignments and examinations at the end of the course description. Please add the cost of these materials to the course fee when computing your total fees. The cost of textbooks is extra.

International postage: Students residing in other countries (except Canada and Mexico) must pay an international postage fee of $50 for airmail.

Noncredit Course Fees

Noncredit course fees vary and are listed at the end of each course description. All registrants pay a nonrefundable $35 registration fee per quarter:

  • Autumn Quarter: August 21–December 17, 2010
  • Winter Quarter: December 19, 2009–March 19, 2010
  • Spring Quarter: March 20–June 11, 2010
  • Summer Quarter: June 11–August 20, 2010

Payment Policy

Students must pay fees when registering. Fees cannot be billed, except for third-party payers within the United States who include a purchase order or letter of authorization to bill with the registration form. Payment by VISA or MasterCard is accepted. There is a $25 service charge for returned checks.
