Composition: Exposition
ENGL 131 Study and practice of good writing. Topics derived from a variety of personal, academic and public subjects. Students learn to evaluate complex material; revise and discuss essays of other students in terms of responsiveness, thesis, development, unity and presentation; and revise their own writing at both the macro level (i.e., content and organization) and the micro level (i.e., paragraph and sentence issues).

Note: Students not previously admitted to the UW (nonmatriculated status) may enroll in English 131 only if they have met the following ELP requirements: score of at least 580 on the TOEFL, or one of these equivalent scores: 90 on the MTELP, 410 on the SAT-Verbal, 490 on the SAT-Verbal (recentered), or 20 on the ACT English.
