Orca Bowl

A tournament-style academic competition designed to challenge and recognize high school students’ knowledge in science, math and technology in the context of the world oceans.
Washington Sea Grant

Description:	The Orca Bowl is one of 25 regional competitions that make up the National Ocean Sciences Bowl program. NOSB is sponsored by the Consortium for Ocean Leadership nosb.org while the Washington Regional Ocean Sciences Bowl is sponsored by the University of Washington, College of the Environment and Washington Sea Grant. All high school students are invited to participate in this tournament-style academic competition. The Orca Bowl is designed to challenge and recognize students' knowledge of science and math in the context of the world oceans. This year Orca Bowl takes place on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the University of Washington. The winning team from the region travels, all expenses paid, to compete in the national finals at Texas A & M University, Galveston. Teams consist of 4-5 students with a coach, who may be a teacher, staff member, parent or volunteer. Students tackle questions in all areas of ocean sciences. physics of the oceans chemistry of the oceans biology of the oceans geology of the oceans social sciences as related to the oceans that include economics, history and human interactions ocean technology such as instrumentation remote sensing and navigation and ocean geography
