Overview

Medical Mysteries, an institute for 5th-to 9th-grade teachers who wish to introduce microbiology and scientific research to their students, will be offered by University of Washington Educational Outreach this summer in Bellevue. Instructional fees, course costs (including credits), and materials for this professional development program are covered by a grant.

Rice University received a Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) from the National Institutes of Health Center for Research Resources to disseminate Medical Mysteries (MedMyst), a field-tested curriculum, in partnership with UW Educational Outreach. All components of this curriculum are aligned with the National Science Education Content Standards. Participants in the Medical Mysteries Institute will increase their content knowledge in microbiology with a focus on infectious diseases, and acquire science and health education activities and materials for their classrooms.
