The web is increasingly used to sell products or services, keep businesses in touch with customers and suppliers, and help organizations communicate with or educate employees. The Certificate Program in Web Design with Adobe Creative Suite provides an intensive, hands-on introduction to the most popular tools used to create web-based multimedia content for commercial, professional, educational and entertainment purposes.

Individuals who have basic internet training and experience* learn about web design concepts and applications during this program, enhancing their knowledge and expertise in web design and development. Students gain foundations in visual and information design for multimedia applications, interface and user-centered design, and multimedia authoring on the web. In addition, students build several web projects using Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Flash.

Web design is applied in many fields including arts and media, business, communications, education, government, information science and technology, and the sciences.

There are career opportunities in web design for:

  • Computer programmers and multimedia developers
  • Web designers, graphics artists
  • Game developers
  • Information systems specialists
  • Marketing and business professionals
  • Teachers and trainers
  • Writers and editors

Instructional Lab Facilities

Classes are taught in a well-equipped digital arts lab, with one computer per student, where each PC runs Windows XP and is specially equipped to handle digital media including graphics, animation, video and sound. The lab facilitates hands-on learning with new PCs, flat-screen displays, CD-ROM burners, high-speed internet connection through the UW network, and access to a scanner, color laser printer, workstation for digitizing audio and video, and servers. Lab computers run on Windows XP, and provide student access to leading multimedia software, such as Adobe's Photoshop, GoLive, Premiere, Encore DVD, Audition, Dreamweaver, Flash, and Freehand.

We will be using Adobe's CS3 Web Premium Edition in class. Students are eligible to purchase this and other software at academic pricing while enrolling in our courses.

* The program is appropriate for both PC and Macintosh users. However, to make the best use of the Digital Arts PC Lab, in which the program is held, participants are expected to have a working knowledge of the Windows 9x, 2000 or XP operating system. The program covers only software tools for which Windows and MacOS versions have been released.
