Program Overview
Approved by the UW School of Art
This nine-month intensive photography certificate program is intended for serious amateurs and aspiring professionals interested in a solid education in traditional wet chemical and modern digital photography techniques and practices. The program is guided by working professional photographers and award-winning instructors with over 40 cumulative years of teaching experience. Topics include: the history of photography, creative visualization, compositional design, 35mm and digital camera operations, camera exposure, fine art printing, Photoshop, digital output and many other areas of creative image making. This certificate program offers an intensive course of study that students have consistently rated as excellent.
During this program, students create a portfolio of images for exhibition and professional use. Students will need a 35mm film camera and textbooks and supplies required for completion of the program; access to a digital camera is strongly recommended. Students have access to the UW digital photo lab and wet chemical darkroom and must be willing to devote four to six hours each week of independent work outside of class.
The end of the program culminates with a public photographic exhibit.
