Management Skills for Nonprofit Leaders

This course provides you with an intensive introduction to responsibilities essential to nonprofit management. Topics include:
- Board of directors, governance
- Financial management—budgeting, cost allocation, understanding financial statements
- Staff and volunteer management
- Introduction to the "third sector" and its importance to the entire community
- Legal requirements for nonprofits
- Program planning
- Organizational assessment and capacity building

Fundraising and Communications for Nonprofits

This course focuses on the nonprofit organization’s relationship with the external community of supporters, funders and policy-makers. It gives managers the tools to evaluate, develop, and implement communications and fundraising objectives and projects in a nonprofit. Topics include:
- How to manage a nonprofit’s brand
- Audit existing communications in nonprofit agencies
- Develop communications plans appropriate for different audiences and outcomes
- Be familiar with advocacy and public policy and the fundamentals of public relations
- Recognize and understand key fundraising concepts, terms, and fundamentals
- Develop a case statement or case for support
- Outline a high level fundraising plan with identified effective practices
