Management Skills for Nonprofit Leaders

This course provides you with an intensive introduction to responsibilities essential to nonprofit management. Topics include:

  • Board of directors, governance
  • Financial management—budgeting, cost allocation, understanding financial statements
  • Staff and volunteer management
  • Introduction to the "third sector" and its importance to the entire community
  • Legal requirements for nonprofits
  • Program planning
  • Organizational assessment and capacity building

Strategic Leadership for Nonprofits

Instructor: Janet Boguch

This course focuses on the nonprofit organization’s relationship with the external community of supporters, funders and policy-makers. It gives managers the tools to evaluate, develop, and implement communications and fundraising objectives and projects in a nonprofit. Topics include:

  • How to manage a nonprofit’s brand
  • Audit existing communications in nonprofit agencies
  • Develop communications plans appropriate for different audiences and outcomes
  • Be familiar with advocacy and public policy and the fundamentals of public relations
  • Recognize and understand key fundraising concepts, terms, and fundamentals
  • Develop a case statement or case for support
  • Outline a high level fundraising plan with identified effective practices
