Medical Practice Quality Measurement and Management

In this course, active or potential health care executives will gain the knowledge and skills needed to manage the delivery of high value care. The course is especially aimed at clinicians interested in leading their peers in the definition, measurement and management of quality improvement in the current rapidly evolving scene.
Students will gain insight into modern quality management (including "rapid cycle improvement"), the outcomes research movement, "report cards," evidence-based guidelines, accreditation issues and modification of physician practice patterns. Other topics adressed in this course include:
- Definition and measurement of quality
- Outcomes measurement
- Assessment processes
- Population-based epidemiology
- Patient satisfaction
- Severity and risk adjustment systems
- Performance indicators
- CQI/TQM philosophy, approach, tools and techniques
- Medical informatics

Winter 2009 Course
Strategic Management of Health Care Organizations

This course focuses on the development and implementation of strategy and market positioning by health care organizations in the changing health care marketplace. The course stresses practical approaches to articulate an organization's mission and vision and formulate strategies that fit the external and internal situation. Topics include:

- Redesigning organization structures to support strategy
