Program Overview
Approved by the UW School of Art
This program is designed to meet the needs of those currently engaged in some form of fiber art, who would like to deepen the expressive or conceptual aspects of their work. Students working in a wide range of fiber media will benefit, including those producing work in weaving (textiles/rugs/baskets), quilting, fashion, textile design, needlework and mixed media.
Students will be encouraged to increase the expressive content of their work through the use of design and color, mixed media, collage and the incorporation of elements of autobiography, history and culture. Assignments and art projects, in which students apply the concepts they have learned, will be critiqued in class. The program will culminate with an exhibition of
student art.
Students will leave this program with
better ability to articulate their ideas through their art, with a body of related work in fiber that demonstrates a recognizable artistic voice and with strategies for ongoing artistic growth.
