First Course

Provides an introduction to database management concepts such as definition of data elements and basic data structures, data modeling, and systems architectures. Participants are introduced to some of the leading database management products and design tools currently in use, and learn principles that are used throughout the program. Topics:

  • Database environments (distributed, mainframe, client-server, desktop)

Participants explore the role and responsibilities of the database administrator. This course provides an introduction to generally accepted database administration functions and practices, and examines some of the common challenges and problems that arise in day-to-day operations. Participants also explore some of the political, legal and ethical issues in database administration. This course is relevant to administrators in the planning, implementation and execution of database management policies and procedures. Topics:
