Autumn Course

Fundamentals of Drawing and Composition

Choose one:

This course is designed to help those with little or no drawing experience to develop a solid foundation in fundamental drawing skills, and sensitivity to the visual elements (line, shape, value, space). The instructor provides examples of abstract and descriptive composition, and students interact in the creation of a composition as each explores the concepts of perspective, use of tone, line, and texture of compositions created in the studio.



Winter Course

Intermediate Drawing for PaintingClass is also available to professionals who do not intend to pursue the certificate, but wish to enroll in individual classes on a space available basis

Section B: (10 sessions) Wednesdays, 7:00-10:00 p.m., Jan. 14-Mar. 18, 2009, $597; 3 CEUs. Instructor: Patrick LoCicero

This 10-week class will strengthen your compositional drawing skills as you use a variety of materials to draw still life, figure, and botanical subjects. This class will deepen understanding of values needed to create believable 2-D representations and compositions. You'll continue to your observational skills as you study light and shadow and learn how perspective and foreshortening effect the rendering of subjects. Artists gain confidence in working with a variety of papers and techniques. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Drawing and Composition

Spring Course

For those new to oil painting, this course addresses the basics of painting with acrylic or oil paint. Surface preparation, paint handling, light, spatial relationships and structure are explored through a variety of subject matter. The course addresses the fundamentals of value, color, form, composition and expression; students are guided toward a discovery and definition of their particular visual voice, using the medium of paint. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Drawing and Composition
