Completion of the I-TEFL certificate program satisfies a five-credit elective requirement for the UW MATESOL degree. Please contact the UW’s MATESOL program if you are interested.

Become an effective and confident instructor of English language learners (ELL)!
Join us each summer for a special professional certificate program designed to help you meet the challenges of teaching English as a Foreign Language anywhere in the world.

I-TEFL is a 120 hour 4-week intensive professional certificate program that focuses on:
  1. Applying current language acquisition theory and research for teaching reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, and integrated skills;
  2. Adapting current theories, research and practices to the target student population;
  3. Developing competence in lesson planning, classroom management skills and promoting student motivation;
  4. Exploring a wide range of language assessment methods;
  5. Attending guest workshops with experienced English language instructors;
  6. Engaging in teaching demonstrations and focused self-reflection;
  7. Creating a professional portfolio of lesson plans and a customized teaching philosophy;
  8. Conducting focused, reflective classroom observations and conversation facilitations;
  9. Building an international network of professional peers.

This certificate program is intended to be a solid professional training experience for instructors of English language learners in K-12 and adult settings worldwide
