How to Apply

Requirements
Applicants must be high school graduates who are at least 18 years of age. They must also meet one of the following minimum requirements:

  • TOEFL iBT 76 (17*)
  • IELTS 6.0 (5.5*)
  • PTE 51 (45*)
  • TOEIC 750 (LR)
  • EIKEN Pre-1
  • A.C.E. Language Institute level 5
  • Successful completion of the UW Intensive Business Program (IBEP) + a TOEIC score of 730 or of Fundamentals of Project Management Certificate Program (FPM) with a final grade of 3.0

Admission

Read about costs, dates, and refund policies on our Information Sheet. We handle applications on a first-come, first-served basis. Our programs fill up quickly, so please apply early.

  1. To apply you must submit:

    • a copy of the Business for International Professionals Application Form
    • a $40 express postage fee (recommended)
    • a $50 nonrefundable certificate program fee
    • your résumé listing education and work or volunteer experience
    • a test score report showing proof of English language proficiency or your UW IELP grade report
    • a letter of application describing your reasons for applying, what you hope to gain from the program, and how your experience prepares you to succeed

  2. If you are applying for an I-20, you must also submit:

    • an official bank statement (less than 6 months old) and a letter of sponsorship (if sponsored) confirming that you have the funds necessary to pay all tuition and living expenses while you are in the U.S. Download this chart to help you determine how much money you must show on the bank statement for your I-20
    • a copy of the page in your passport with your picture, name, birth date

    Applications are evaluated by the Program Manager. Selection of program participants is based on the admission requirements. The certificate program fee does not guarantee admission to, or enrollment in, the program. If you are accepted to the program, the $300 tuition deposit will be charged.

    You will receive an e-mail notification of your acceptance, inclusion on a wait list or non-acceptance letter within a week after we receive your completed application. If you haven't received word about your application status, please contact our office: 206-685-0606.

    If you are accepted, we will send you registration information. Waitlisted applicants will be notified if space becomes available and will be given an opportunity to register. If space does not become available, waitlisted applicants will be offered a space in the program's next academic term. If you applied for an I-20 and are accepted, we will send you a Visa Eligibility Form (I-20).

  3. Contact the nearest US Embassy or Consulate to schedule an F-1 visa interview appointment.

  4. Pay the I-901 SEVIS Fee ($200).

  5. Take your I-20 and supporting documents to the interview.

Please Note: Admission to the Business for International Professionals certificate program does not mean you are accepted to the University of Washington.

Admission to the Business for International Professionals does not mean you are accepted to the internship program.
