What to Expect
Here are some of the many things you can expect when you study in the AAPS program on the University of Washington main campus.
Before Classes Begin » During the Program End of the Quarter During the Program
Class Hours
You will be with your instructors approximately five hours per day, five days per week. Instructors are experts in the area of academic preparatory skill building; class activities will be broken up with hands-on workshops, group activities, and out-of-the-classroom work.
Guest Lectures
Each week, AAPS students will attend at least one guest lecture by UW faculty in a broad range of subject areas, demonstrating that the theme of Globalization reaches to all areas of study. Prior to each lecture you will be assigned a reading that compliments the lecture topic. The lectures are intended to help broaden the students' knowledge on academic topics as well as develop your comprehension, critical thinking and note-taking skills. Students will have opportunities to develop questions for the lecturers and participate in Q&A sessions. Here is an excerpt from a guest lecturer's reading assignment from the 2009 program.
Presentations
At the end of the program, each AAPS student will make a final oral presentation on a topic of your choice focused on Globalization and your area of study. To prepare for the presentation, you will write a graduate-level research paper and prepare a poster visualizing your thesis.
Social Activities
AAPS students will have opportunities outside of the classroom to mix with UW students during summer quarter FIUTS activities.
