Before you Register
To meet your English language requirement through the University of Washington's Academic English Program (AEP) you should begin by registering for the AEP Diagnostic Examination. This examination determines which - IF ANY - English language classes you need. Students who do not take the AEP Diagnostic Examination are automatically placed in the lowest level English language course, ENGL 100.
You must register for one English language course each quarter you attend until you have completed your English language requirement. Students who do not complete their English language requirement will not be permitted to graduate. How to Register
To register for AEP courses, use the MyUW Webpage.
Cost for the 2008-09 Academic year is $1,067 per course. The fee for AEP courses is separate from regular tuition. These courses do not carry credit toward graduation; however, they do count toward undergraduate GPAs. They also count as five credits toward meeting full-time enrollment and financial aid requirements. No section changes are permitted after week one of the quarter. AEP courses follow published UW policies regarding refunds and withdrawals. To drop an AEP course, contact Dina Johnson at djohnson@extn.washington.edu. Registering for English 105
To register for English 105, contact Dina Johnson, AEP Advisor, at djohnson@extn.washington.edu. Students who have taken the SPEAK TEST are given priority registration.
Registering for Online Sections
To register for an online section of an AEP course (100, 101, 102, 103) contact Dina Johnson at djohnson@extn.washington.edu for an Entry Code. Classes begin on the same date as other UW courses. You may enroll in the same online course a maximum of two times.
Non-Matriculated Students and Visiting Scholars
If you are a nonmatriculated student or a visiting scholar, you may also take AEP courses if there is space available. Matriculated students have priority in these courses. If you want to take a course higher than ENGL 100), you must take the AEP Diagnostic Examination. To register for a course, contact the AEP Advisor at 206-543-6242 or send us an e-mail.
