Courses
Academic English Program (AEP) courses focus on improving grammar, vocabulary, writing, reading, and listening skills for university level work. These courses focus on the language skills necessary to edit university level writing and to comprehend academic texts and lectures.

There are six courses offered each quarter to improve academic language skills:
  • Three levels of language structure (ENGL 100, 101, 102)
  • Academic writing (ENGL 103)
  • Academic listening (ENGL 104)
  • International teaching assistant training (ENGL 105)
There are also online sections of 100, 101, 102, and 103. These do not have regular classroom sessions. Instead, students work on course materials via the Internet and communicate with their instructors by e-mail.

To meet your English language requirement through the University of Washington's Academic English Program (AEP) you should begin by registering for the AEP Diagnostic Examination. This examination determines which - IF ANY - English language classes you need. Students who do not take the AEP Diagnostic Examination are automatically placed in the lowest level English language course, ENGL 100.
