If you are a non-native speaker of English and a non-US citizen at the time that you enroll in classes at the University of Washington, you may need to fulfill the UW's English language requirement. The English language requirement applies to undergraduate, graduate and transfer students.

The Academic English Program (AEP) provides courses for UW students who are not native speakers of English.

Our Goals
Our goals are to
  • help UW students who are non-native speakers of English achieve the linguistic level of native-speaking incoming freshmen
  • empower international students to participate fully in academic life at the University of Washington and succeed in their chosen field by helping them to improve their academic English skills
Our Faculty and Professional Staff
We have 60 full-time faculty and professional staff with advanced degrees and many years of experience teaching English language, studying other languages, and living around the world.
